Plantar fasciitis is the most commonly occurring heel pain seen in runners, obese people and pregnant women. The thick band of tissues in the bottom of your feet get inflamed, causing pain. The heel pain is usually felt on the inside of the heel. The pain is also felt along the arch of the feet and along the border of the heel. You feel a stabbing pain, especially, in the morning as the plantar fascia tightens up. The pain reduces as the tissues stretch, but it may worsen if you stand, walk or run. This condition is seen in athletes, dancers and jumpers.

Heel pain is usually felt in two main sections of the heel, under the heel and in the back of the heel. In most cases, when people suffer from pain in the back of the heel it is related to overuse or inflammation of the Achilles tendon. When people suffer from plantar fasciitis pain, it can be caused by a person stepping on a large stone or rock which bruises the heel, or it can be caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia. A heel that is hurt by a sharp object will heal on its own over time.

Is there a difference between Plantar Fasciitis and heel spurs? While there is a difference between the two conditions, they are related. Plantar fasciitis is a condition where the thick tissue on the bottom or your foot becomes irritated and swollen. Plantar Fasciitis means inflammation of your plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is tissue that holds up the bones on the bottom of your foot. When you have this condition you usually feel pain in the bottom or your heel. This may be due to arch problems. When your plantar fascia pulls away from the heel, calcium deposits can form there.

Pain can sometimes cause a lot more than just discomfort. It can often significantly impact daily activities since any weight placed on the affected area can deliver serious pain which can prevent you from doing daily activities and exercise. Plantar fasciitis causes an aching pain that can be localized in the heel, but also radiate throughout the foot. In most cases, pain is most noticeable and serious in the morning when getting out of bed, or after standing up after prolonged sitting. This is because pain in the inflamed area subsides after the plantar fascia relaxes.

An easy home exercise for plantar fasciitis involves the use of a tennis ball or any small ball that is comfortable to use on the bottom of the foot. The exercise is performed by placing the bottom of the foot on top of the ball and gently rolling the ball back and forth. This is thought to massage the muscles and stretch the muscles along the sole of the foot to relieve tension. This can be performed while seated or standing while holding on the a wall or chair. The exercise can be performed for 30 seconds to a minute at a time followed by a period of rest. plantar fasciitis shoes

The plantar fascia is a thick fibrous band of connective tissue originating on the bottom surface of the calcaneus (heel bone) and extending along the sole of the foot towards the toes It has been reported that plantar fasciitis occurs in two million Americans a year and in 10% of the U.S. population over a lifetime. Another symptom is that the sufferer has difficulty bending the foot so that the toes are brought toward the shin (decreased dorsiflexion of the ankle ). A symptom commonly recognized among sufferers of plantar fasciitis is an increased probability of knee pains, especially among runners Diagnosis edit.

The two muscles that we call the calves (Gastrocnemius and Soleus) attach to the heel via the Achilles Tendon. The Achilles Tendon wraps over the heel bone where it then becomes the Plantar Fascia. The Plantar fascia stretches across the bottom of the foot to the base of your toes. While we may think of these muscles and tendons as separate tissue structures , you can see by the picture that these structures are not separate They are one continuous fascial tissue structure. So you can imagine that tension in one will affect each of the others.

Other effective techniques include use of a slant board ( Figure 3 ) or placing a two-inch × four-inch piece of wood ( Figure 4 ) in areas where the patient stands for a prolonged time (e.g., workplaces, kitchen or stoves) to use in stretching the calf. Dynamic stretches such as rolling the foot arch over a 15-oz size can or a tennis ball are also useful ( Figure 5 ) Cross-friction massage above the plantar fascia ( Figure 6 ) and towel stretching ( Figure 7 ) may be done before getting out of bed and serve to stretch the plantar fascia.

Why is this exercise valuable? The muscles of the feet require good strength to control the forces associated with landing on the ground during the running stride. This toe-walking exercise helps to develop the eccentric (support) strength and mobility in the muscles of the foot and calf, as well as the plantar fascia and Achilles tendon (eccentric strength means hardiness as these structures are being stretched out). The exercise also works the foot and ankle through a broad range of motion, especially for the foot which is bearing weight on the ball and toes while the ankle is extended (is in plantar flexion).

If you happen to strain or even injure your Plantar Fascia, you will know due to the fact Plantar Fasciitis is an extremely painful affliction of the feet. The Plantar Fascia is the muscle that runs from the heel to the ball of the foot. When this muscle is over-stressed or possibly been injured, when you first try to get out of bed each morning you will experience a new volume of pain. When you were lying down, the torn muscles have already contracted and when you attempt to walk after waking up, they get stretched suddenly.plantar fasciitis surgery

Surgery Surgery may be needed for some patients, typically those who have disabling heel pain that does not respond to other treatments for at least a year. A typical surgery is called instep plantar fasciotomy. It relieves pressure on the nerves that are causing pain by removing and therefore releasing part of the plantar fascia. A less invasive method uses a procedure called endoscopy, which requires smaller incisions. Wearing a below-the-knee walking cast after surgery for 2 weeks may reduce the need for pain relief and speed recovery time compared to the use of crutches.

Plantar Fasciitis. Plantar fasciitis occurs from small tears and inflammation in the wide band of tendons and ligaments - the connective tissue - which stretches from the heel to the ball of the foot. This band, much like the tensed string in a bow, forms the arch of the foot and helps to serve as a shock absorber for the body. (The term plantar means the sole of the foot and fascia refers to any fibrous connective tissue in the body.) Plantar fasciitis is usually a result of overuse from high-impact exercise and sports and accounts for up to 9% of all running injuries.

Most (young) women like to look stylish and wear a shoe with a medium to high heel. The problem with high heels is that your bodyweight is not evenly distributed across the underside of the foot, but rather 80% of your weight pushes down on only one area of the foot, the forefoot area. i.e. the balls of your feet. This is totally unnatural and before long the entire forefoot structure collapses, leading to constant pressure and friction in the ball of the foot. The body reacts and builds up thick layers of callous in this area which in turn leads to a burning sensation under the foot.footpain

Buy shoes that fit. Always try on shoes before you purchase them. If the shoe is too tight across the toe box, it will be very unpleasant to wear and will make foot pain worse. Ill-fitting shoes also cause blisters or corns on your feet. You may want to get your feet Toe Corns measured each time you try on shoes, as some brands fit differently than others. Your feet swell as the day goes on, so it is usually best to wait until the evening to try on and purchase shoes. If you order shoes online and do not like the way they fit, return them.

The symptoms of heel spurs are nearly identical to those for plantar fasciitis (above). There is pain in the front of the heel and possibly in the arch. The pain probably seems particularly acute when taking your first steps of the day or walking after a long period of sitting down. When you have a heel spur, unlike with plantar fasciitis, you will feel pain when you press the front of the heel, at the intersection of the heel and the arch, pressing up and backward toward the heel. This is where the heel spur has formed - it's a pointy extension of the heel bone.

If you are a sufferer of side of foot pain it can impact significantly on the quality of your life. We tend to take our feet for granted but when getting from A to B becomes restrictive or even painful then it is time to seek a remedy. The causes of Side of Foot Pain can be due to many reasons but most significantly it is due to wearing incorrect footwear. Where possible try to restrict the use of high heels to nights out and stick to flat shoes during the day.

Stopping foot pain from the start is the most effective way to not have painful foot surgeries later. Though many people disregard foot pain for weeks, pretending that the pain isn't serious or wishing it would resolve itself are inappropriate reactions to the foot pain situation. Painful feet can be a thing of the past and strong, healthy feet can take their place with only a few minor lifestyle changes. Here are a few reasons why ball of foot pain occurs, how to cure foot conditions such as Achilles tendinitis, and how minor changes, like using insoles for high heel shoes, can help.

heel lift insoles for womenDo you often want to be taller and are not happy with the height that you are? You may have tried a lot of different products and techniques to try to grow taller and if you are ready to try something that really works, you can find shoe insoles that will make you look inches taller, all without having to take any kind of supplement or other procedure that is designed to make you look taller. The insoles that you can try are called the Levitator shoe lifts, and they are made to easily fit into your shoes without being able to notice that they are there.

Shoe lifts or heel lifts can be used to address various problems. The most common use is to adjust for leg length discrepancies. Leg length differences are often the cause of pain in the back, knees, hips, legs or feet. If one leg is longer than the other, it can carry more weight and take more force upon impact. On the other hand shorter leg can strike the floor differently the problems are never-ending. Shoe lifts that reduce the strain on the low back during walking or those that facilitate in the improvement of posture are good buy.

If you are not satisfied with the ready-made insoles, you can also use custom-made insoles that fit in your shoes perfectly. You can also check out Lynco Aetrex orthotics for runners and athletes. These are one of the best shoe inserts for plantar fasciitis. Sole Ultra heat moldable footbeds are also one of the most effective shoe inserts for an inflamed plantar fascia. Other manufacturers providing good quality shoe inserts include Superfeet, Spenco, Birkenstock and Sorbothane also manufacture insoles. Those who have flat feet will surely benefit by using PowerStep insoles. If you are not able to decide which one is best, you can always consult a podiatrist.

The next crucial thing to do is immediately put on a comfortable pair of shoes and orthotic shoe insoles. This will help to cushion and support the bottom of your foot and help to keep it from more injury. If you utilize the proper plantar fasciitis stretching exercises and arch support inserts, you will see a great improvement in your heel pain. You should really pay attention to your body and if you are aware of foot pain, talk to a doctor as soon as possible. This will ensure that your pain does not become a more serious issue.

Most people experience pain on the heel when they wake up in the morning and begin to walk. There is less pain and stiffness after a while; however, the pain may increase during the day. The pain can occur when you stand or sit for a long time too. The illness is caused when there is strain on the ligament that provides support to the arch. Tiny ligament tears are caused when there are repeated strains resulting in swelling and pain. Continued stretching of the plantar fascia can result in heel spur which is a bone-like development on the heel. Flat feet or high arches can be a cause.

A good exercise that you can perform before sitting up is to stretch your foot by moving it up and down ten times. An alternative exercise you should do while sitting is to roll a rolling pin or tennis ball with the arch of your foot. Once you can, move on to doing this heel lifts exercise as you are standing up. After these exercises, put on your shoes with arch support inserts inside them, or wear supportive sandals. Don’t start the day walking without shoes on hard floors or tiles, or it can be guaranteed that your heel pain will come back.

According to the American Podiatric Medical Association, feet absorb hundreds of tons of pressure in an average day, making them the most injury-prone part of the bodiy. Wearing protective and supportive shoes is essential for good foot health, particularly when injury has occurred. The plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that connects the toes and the heel, becomes inflamed when too much stress is placed on the arch of the foot. Wearing proper shoes can help to alleviate the pain of plantar fasciitis, as well as to prevent further injury. A few general rules will guide you to the best shoes for your condition. Moderate Heels

There are plenty of people these days who experience unfortunate pain in the bottom half of their body whilst walking, running or standing. A good number of of these discomforts are connected to incorrect padding inside footwear. Although the more expensive shoes offer the basic cushion along with the shock absorbent sole for arch support there isn't any extra cushion or aid to decrease the discomfort experienced by the user. This is how Walk Fit designed. The manufacturers have manufactured special shoes inserts designed to decrease noticeably the pains suffered by men and women on their feet, hips, knees and lower back.

While you are carrying out rigorous activities like running, jogging, fast walking and playing games, it would be great for you to insert shoe insoles in your shoes You will see that shoe insole is a term which is used for arches as well as cushion supports which can be inserted inside any shoe that you desire to wear. The insoles come in myriads of different options which can be used for different purposes. The main function of the insole is to provide a comfortable cushioning to your foot. They create a shock absorbent and soft surface that helps you in doing rigorous activities without feeling pain or discomfort.

Manufacturers of shoe insoles have come up with different types of materials, but they all want one thing. In the case of Sof Men’s Air Insoles, you get air cushion under your foot. The insole protects you from impacts on hard concrete. Some insoles contain gel instead of air. There are also those that are loaded with other features. The Sof Sole Hike CoolMax , for instance, has moisture-control ability. Athletes have sweaty feet. The moisture accumulation inside the shoes can lead to smelly feet or athlete’s foot. Insoles with moisture-control abilities can limit the growth of microorganisms inside your shoes.

heel lift insoles for mens targetIf you have tried other kinds of insoles or lifts before but have found that they are noticeable and not comfortable to wear, the Levitator shoe lifts are something that you should try if you want to increase your height. They are designed to easily fit into your shoes and provide you with comfort while making you look taller. You can increase your height easily when you find the right kind of insoles to use. You can buy the insoles and shoe lifts online and have them ready to use.

The Yoko / Kimi shoe pads are designed to have raised tabs at specific places that, with each step you take, will exert pressure on certain acupressure points to stimulate the production of human growth hormone (HGH for short), which is a hormone that is believed to be responsible for height increase. The more you wear them, the more effective they tend to be. The downside of these products is that while some people have vouched for their effectiveness in increasing height, walking with these inserts for too long can cause blisters or bleeding on your soles. Insoles To Increase Height.

The spenco insoles are known as shoe lifts or elevator inserts and range in height from 0.5 to 2.5 inches. Most doctors recommend a height of not more than 2 inches for health reasons. Height enhancers are different from heel lifts because heel lifts are used to correct discrepancies in leg lengths. Detachable inserts which have multiple layers come in half or full insert models, and most products are designed to adjust to the wearer's personal preferences. Full inserts support the whole foot and have different grades from the back to the front of the foot.

One way to help prevent heel spurs is stretch the foot and calf before strenuous exercise. By stretching these tissues, you create more flexibility which lessens the likelihood of plantar fascia stress. It is also essential to wear shoes that fit properly and provide ample arch support and cushioning to the foot. Arch support insoles are a smart addition to any shoe to help eliminate any abnormal stress on the Plantar Fascia, which could lead to heel bone spurs. Being mindful of our feet is a very important step in staying healthy. Healthy feet are a critical component to our long-term health.

If you are in search of inserts for kids, then you can consult the doctor and buy Spenco Total Support Gel - Arch Support Insoles. These supports are made of special thermoplastic gel and they also have special forefoot impact zone. These are metatarsal arch supports that provide stability and support to arches and heel of the kids. The best thing about these arch support insoles is that they have unique 3 pod cushioning system that are shock absorbent. However, all this is only possible when you will select shoes, slipper or sandals with arch supports that fits the exact foot size of the kids.

Heel pain in children is mostly caused due to Sever's disease. It can also be caused due to some other health conditions. Usually, young children in the age group of 10 to 14 suffer from heel pain. Boys tend to get heel pain more frequently as compared to girls. The pain is felt shoe inserts at the back of the heel and sometimes, at the bottom of the heel as well. The pain may not be constant and it comes and goes. It can affect both the legs or just one leg may also get affected. Normally, the healing time is two weeks though it may recur after a period of time.

The repetitive pulling and tightening of the arch and the resultant biomechanical damage leads to a variety of foot problems. Orthotics help in reducing the over-stretching or overpronation of the arch. Shoe inserts or foot supports decrease the tension on the ligament by distributing the weight evenly. So, the bones and tissues are no longer under an immense strain. These provide support to the arches, stability to the ankle and provide the much-needed padding or cushioning for an improved shock absorption. Unlike the rubber footbeds that just act as a cushion, orthotic devices are designed to correct any type of misalignment in the foot.

It is advisable to use proper shoes because running or walking involves strenuous movements. You can consult a physiotherapist to know the kind of motion control needed. Running shoes for plantar fasciitis provide special structural support around the heel which is not found in normal running shoes. They also have an inbuilt scientific technique to deal with pain. Some shoes do not have any supplementary devices, but instead, have an inbuilt mechanism in the sole which treats the problem. But, these shoes are very costly with a limited number of designs and styles.

These arch supports are generally available over the shelf and can be bought either online or offline depending on the choice of the person. Ideally, these come in form of shoe insoles, which can replace the existing show insoles of your sports shoes The other problem that needs to be taken a look at is how the shape of the leg changes when the person walks, the height of the arch of the leg also goes up and down with the motion. The arch support that is bought should be able to provide this required dynamic support that the feet needs.

Footwear has become a fashion accessory these days. No wonder, the footwear companies are always on a lookout for designs that will please the customers. One must, however, not forget that style must not come before health. Some of the shoes might look very appealing, but the fashionable high-heeled or pointy shoes can put pressure on the plantar fascia. Wearing poorly-fitting shoes is one mistake that can cost you a lot later on. Those who have already been diagnosed with foot problems such as plantar fasciitis will, therefore, benefit greatly by donning plantar fasciitis shoes. These are good at absorbing shocks and also facilitate a proper arch support.

Better, Stronger, Faster? New Federal Safety Rules Proposed for Child Car Seats – Consumerist
(Consumerist)
(Consumerist)

From a parent's perspective, frequent changes in car seat regulations and standards can be daunting. Still, safety is paramount, and so the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is proposing a round of new safety standards for child car seats.

The changes would add side-impact crashes to the battery of tests that child safety seats currently undergo. The proposed new test would simulate a T-bone style crash: the striking vehicle, moving at 30 mph, strikes a smaller passenger vehicle moving at 15 mph. The specially designed sled test also simulates the vehicle door crushing inward, toward the car seat.

The new test will not only use the exiting crash test dummy that represents a one-year-old baby, but also a new crash test dummy that represents a three-year-old toddler. It will cover car seats used for children up to 40 pounds.

Testing car seats for safety in side-impact crashes was first suggested as far back as 2003; much of the intervening decade was spent researching what, very specifically, to test for. The NHTSA has proposed a three-year window for car seat manufacturers to make any needed changes to their designs when the rule becomes final.

The NHTSA is also revising its policy on the LATCH system for installing car seats, USA Today reports. LATCH was designed to make car seat installation easier for parents (although it's not always as seamless as intended). The new rule, expected to go into effect in February or March, indicates that LATCH should not be used for a combination of car seat and kid weighing more than 65 pounds.

Car seat manufacturers will have to label their seats to indicate at what weight point parents should swap over to using a seat belt attachment instead. So for example, a seat that weighs 30 pounds would have to indicate that for use with children over 35 pounds, the seat should be hooked into the seat belt.

Seat weights are not currently generally labeled. When they are, many parents may find it hard to believe that the seat does not actually weigh a hundred pounds; it only feels like it on the interminable walk to the front door.

Thai protesters march as state of emergency begins - Yahoo News

BANGKOK (AP) -- As a state of emergency came into effect Wednesday in the Thai capital, defiant protesters marched on government offices and defaced the wall outside of national police headquarters, while a prominent government supporter in the country's northeast was the target of a shooting attack.

The government said it enacted the emergency decree to improve security and ensure that Feb. 2 elections, opposed by the protesters, are held without disruption. Officials declared there would be no crackdown on the demonstrators, who have seized several patches of the capital, and life in the city continued as normal with tourist sites unaffected and no major deployment of extra security forces.

The government announced the state of emergency late Tuesday in the wake of a string of attacks that have mostly been aimed at demonstrators protesting peacefully in Bangkok. Grenade assaults on Friday and Sunday killed one man and wounded more than 60 people, bringing the casualty toll since November to at least nine dead and more than 550 hurt.

Gunmen wounded a top leader of a pro-government movement in northeastern Thailand on Wednesday, in what many fear is a portent of increased violence if no negotiated solution is found to the political crisis.

Kwanchai Praipana was shot twice and hospitalized after gunmen in a pickup truck sprayed bursts of gunfire at his home in Udon Thani, according to Jatuporn Promphan, another leader of the "Red Shirt" group. The attackers have not been identified.

The emergency decree, which will remain in effect for 60 days, gives police expanded powers to make arrests, conduct searches and seize suspicious materials. The government said it imposed the measure in part to secure the city and because protesters have tried to shut down government offices and prevent civil servants from working.

"The caretaker government's enactment of the emergency decree today indicates its growing desperation," said a statement from the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee, which has been leading the protests. The group and its sympathizers say the decree is illegal and have threatened to go to court to invalidate it.

Thailand's conservative court system is widely seen as being biased against the current government, with the possibility that it could carry out a "judicial coup" to oust Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on the basis of one of several lawsuits.

The protesters have blocked major streets and marched on government offices in a bid to shut down the capital and force Yingluck's resignation to make way for an appointed government to implement reforms to fight corruption, which they say must be implemented before any vote. The opposition Democrat Party, closely aligned with the protesters, is boycotting the polls.

The protesters charge that Yingluck's government is carrying on the practices of Thaksin Shinawatra, her billionaire brother who was prime minister from 2001 to 2006, by using the family fortune and state funds to influence voters and cement its power.

Thaksin was ousted by a military coup in 2006 after protests accused him of corruption and abuse of power. He fled into exile in 2008 to avoid a two-year prison sentence for a conflict of interest conviction.

The country's powerful army commander, Gen. Prayuth Chan-ocha, said "we will have to see" whether the emergency decree helps ease the violence.

The protesters have refused to negotiate with Yingluck, but Prayuth urged both sides to talk, saying, "we must stop this conflict to let the country move forward."

"No one takes all or loses all. No one wins all or loses all, so we have to find a way," he said. "Whenever the conflict has gone to the point that it is not fixable, the soldiers have to fix it."

Thailand's military has staged 11 successful coups since the end of absolute monarchy in 1932. Prayuth has repeatedly said he does not want the army to intervene, but has pointedly refused to rule out a coup.
